Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Joe Biden at one of the coolest concerts in history. A stark contrast from what we just saw Trump exhibit on the White House lawn. Jill Biden and Hillary Clinton were there. Everyone was groovin'. A reminder of the energy we felt during Obama's years.
Too bad he couldn't run for a third term... but he, like most Americans adhered to the laws of the U.S. Constitution. Trump threatens to disregard those terms. If so, many many Americans say they will be marching to Washington to set that illegal act on it's rear.
Wish I was there for the opening! I covered President Obama when he came to Lake Tahoe to talk about saving our environment. He was received by the thousands of people like a rock star. He still is. Michelle Obama gave a speech the rocked the world too. She called out the many achievements her husband never asks credit for. She called out how HIS loyalty and identity were questioned by Trump's goon squad Republicans. She made a point that all of us need to do something to combat the upper-crust wealthy greed threatening our democracy.
Barack spoke and motivated us as usual. Brilliantly!
The writing on the exterior of the Obama Presidential Center Museum Building is a large-scale structural text installation featuring an excerpt from President Barack Obama’s 2015 speech delivered at the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, marking the 50th anniversary of the Bloody Sunday civil rights marches. The letters wrap around the top corner of the 225-foot-tall granite tower, functioning as both an architectural screen and a statement on the power of words.
“You are America. Unconstrained by habit and convention. Unencumbered by what is, ready to seize what ought to be. For everywhere in this country, there are first steps to be taken, there is new ground to cover, there are more bridges to be crossed. America is not the project of any one person. The single most powerful word in our democracy is the word ‘We.’ ‘We The People.’ ‘We Shall Overcome.’ ‘Yes We Can.’ That word is owned by no one. It belongs to everyone. Oh, what a glorious task we are given to continually try to improve this great nation of ours.”
