Those of us who remember the TV show "All in the Family" know that when that show played it was a guttural look at racism in the American home. Archie Bunker (Played by the late Carroll O'Connor) would say things that made the "modern-thinking" people of the 70's and 80's cringe.
He would use racial slurs, quote antiquated information, and label anyone other than white with stereo-types.
Archie Bunker was an eye-opener. But, that show was generations ago. People's views of all races and nationalities have improved... right???
Not at the White House.
Trump said things in his speech on Thursday, in the Rose Garden of the White House, in our Nations Capital... in 2020 that could only be compared with 1950s and 1960s racist garbage.
While gloating about the jobs report for this quarter, that showed a small recovery from the 40 million plus Americans out of work because of CoV19 (not his doing, more on that another post) -- Trump said these things referring to George Floyd, the African American laid to rest this week who was murdered by four Minnesota Police officers:
"This is a great day for George Floyd".
"George is smiling down"
"it's a great day for racial equality"
In a half baked dim-witted response to the murder, and the numerous other murders of people of color in our country Trump said:
"You can't treat them like that"
'them!!!"
He then went on to tell us "things are great" ... "the economy is going to take off"... and how "tremendous" of a job he did saving millions of lives (instead of admitting his delinquent response is responsible for over 100,000 deaths SO FAR!!!)
Where do we start?
Pretty much any day that involves a funeral... WITH YOUR NAME ON THE HEADSTONE is not a "great day" ...for you, for anyone... any time!!!
"George is smiling down"
Again, Trump is selling the Religious Gobbledygook because it's one of the last sources of loyal-blind votes. Floyd was murdered by a police officer who had a record of wrongful treatment of minorities... George isn't smiling down... he's working on revenge.
"a great day for racial equality"
Let's all again remember in the days after George Floyd's murder the police concocted a false police report, the police department was stonewalling any public intervention... and the Attorney General of Minneapolis said "Trump and William Barr are closely monitoring this situation.
THIS MURDER LIKE MANY OTHERS WAS GOING TO BE SWEPT UNDER THE RUG. Trump "monitoring" a situation is like telling people Hitler is "baking cakes".
"them"... Police can't treat "them" like that... Trump is the idiot who told police to hurt their prisoners... made fun of it during meetings with police... emboldened racists within our legal systems.. the KKK. A Police Officer (or anyone) pinning a handcuffed man to the ground with his knee on his neck... is not a "them" issue.. it's a YOU CAN'T TREAT ANYONE LIKE THAT issue!
I guess we can kind of find a coherent thought in Trump's statements if we look at it this way... how would a racially challenged moron try to say something positive about what has happened in our country these past weeks?
- Ok, so yes, because of millions and millions of people demonstrating, NOT TAKING TRUMP'S "MONITORING" this time, there have been strides in the treatment of prisoners and minorities that are promised from our state governments. Yes, people have made a stand against racial injustices... so, sure, maybe George Floyd would have felt good knowing he made a change...
BUT REGARDLESS, TRUMP HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THESE POSITIVES!!!
In fact, ignored the issues, never even tired to console the country, bring unity... and he TEAR-GASSED PEOPLE!!!
So, Mr. "Religious" I got news for you, nobody is looking down and s
