Virginia voters approved with 66% of their votes to redraw congressional maps, favoring Democrats in races for the US House of Representatives this November. This is "Fire with Fire" reaction to the "gerryrigging" that Republicans have been getting away with for decades.
This is a response to negate Donald Trump’s attempts to reconfigure congressional districts nationwide in his favor for the coming midterm elections. Trump first dropped a dime to his loyal Texan Governor Greg Abbott who convinced Texas Republicans to redraw maps to give the GOP an advantage. Texas' "gerrycheating" was immediately met by California Democrats who put a vote on an interim election which was won that redrew a map projected to flip five of their red seats to blue. Legislatures in Missouri and North Carolina drew new districts favoring the GOP.
It's a game of checkers on the national scale.
This was a monumental shift for Virginian voters who hold themselves to high standards regarding following the Constitution. Even though the "Virginian way" is to not play the games of manipulation regarding voting, the majority of voters, as proven by the vote counts, felt Trump was "cheating" because he knows he's going to lose control of the House, and possibly the Senate. They were unwilling to remain on their high-horse and risk having Trump continue his moves to become the first authoritarian ruler of the USA.
As we know, Trump lost the 2016 election to Hillary Clinton based on the popular vote. Trump won that vote only because some very smart rich people drew voting boundaries in his favor.
Virginia voters have approved a constitutional amendment that bypasses the state’s bipartisan redistricting commission. This could give Democrats an advantage in 10 seats, and Republicans in one, meaning that Virginia’s congressional delegation would likely shift to being almost completely controlled by Democrats.
Polls taken by even the most conservative news media point to Trump becoming a "lame duck" president. In Trump's mind that must be Waterloo, Pearl Harbor and the Crusades combined.

Trump has lied for almost a decade now about the 2020 election being "rigged". He's ordered his loyal departments of justice and legal attack dogs to create legislation to eliminate established voting processes like mail-in voting. He's threatening to have his ICE assault squads present at key voting locations in democratic sectors of our nation.
TRUMP WILL CHEAT!!!
More alarming, Trump has hinted he will invoke the INSURRECTION ACT. He's already federalized police forces in Washington D.C. and if (when) he does this he will have the powers of every evil murderous dictator in history! People who speak against him will be arrested for being "dissidents", people who gather in public to protest will be imprisoned for being "domestic terrorists".
SCARY FACT: The Insurrection Act of 1807 is a United States federal law that empowers the president to deploy the U.S. military and federalize the National Guard domestically to suppress civil disorder, insurrection, or rebellion. It is the primary exception to the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which generally prohibits the federal government from using the military for civilian law enforcement. Sound like something Trump would do?

It is famous for its extensive military presence (including Norfolk Naval Station), diverse geography from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay, and its "Virginia is for Lovers" tourism.
