In my college Political Science class we had the terrible task of dissecting one of Adolf Hitler's speeches.

Chose a speech Trump made in Munich in 1942... OOPS! I'm SOOO sorry.. I meant Hitler.... Hitler... Trump hasn't spoken like this in Munich YET!.

I don't recall much about the speech but it did convince me Hitler was a very sick, angry and careless man. I think this exercise was the Polsci equivalent to parallel parking in driver's ed.

He would point is finger into space to represent "the others" those people who were "trying to take over the Motherland" who were "controlling German lives".

I reviewed it today and it's really frikkin scary how close to 1942 we are. Every time Trump commends his "Republican loyals" I hear Hitler petting his "Party Comrades!"

Here are some parallels:

Hitler: "Today I stand by this same view. Fate, or Providence, will give the victory to those who most deserve it."

Trump: Calls on Christianity, fates, loyalty of party to make things great again, for the chosen few.

Hitler: "Today's gathering, however, reminds us most of all of the evening which we were able to celebrate in the former hall 10 years ago. It reminds us of this because at that time too we were in the midst of a very hard fight. Our fight to take over power in, Germany was just as decisive for our fate as the fight which we are waging today."

Trump: Constantly brings up the "previous administration" and tells people "how bad it was". You know, the Obama administration who saved our country FROM THE WORST DEPRESSION IN 80 YEARS! The admin that turned our Country around after Bush's deficits and oil and Wall Street entitlements started taking hold.

Hitler: "a colossus had arisen in the East with only a single thought in mind, to fall upon this weak, lazy, defeatist and internally-torn Europe"

Trump: Constantly calls upon people to think of the "other side" being weak, lazy, internally torn. yikes. He might as well say it in German! "Die Demokraten sind faul und unorganisiert"

Hitler: "barely ten years were enough for this whole movement to rise anew from its ashes, like a phoenix"

Trump: Already insisting he should have THREE terms, says he won't leave the White House... this from someone who says we should all follow the Constitution!

Hitler: "Our opponents are the same, and behind these opponents there stands the same eternally driving force, the international Jew."

Trump: It's the Democrats and Immigrants. It's the "fake media" the "Lazy Liberals"... This week we saw him oust Lt. Vindman and Ambassador Sondland. A military professional with am impeccable career of honesty, and one of his previous supporters. Trump's list of people his followers should hate is growing!

So many more instances, and as I read this speech I couldn't help but hear Trump's musical fluttering with excitement voice speaking... "... the party that gives (Germans) power, heart, knowledge... National Socialist Party and its mighty organization". For all practical purposes THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS BECOME AN AUTHORITARIAN STATE... A "NATIONALIST SOCIALIST" PARTY.

* I think about a Trump supporter who heckled Elizabeth Warren in a rally last fall in Carson City NV... shouting "you're all socialists, communists"... That rogue scholar needs to take a Polsci course to understand how wrong he was.

btw. I didn't do well in College. I was playing in a rock band. But I still wanted to have enough knowledge to be irritating. I mean to be able to cope in a complex world.

The only report I remember doing well on was about the (at the time) smoldering conflict in the Middle East. How it would escalate.

That report might as well be about Trump today, and his gun wielding white supremacists who marched in our Capital yesterday ESCORTED BY WASHINGTON SECURITY!!!

Trump is invoking smoldering civil unrest. So he and his Billionaire buddies can make BILLIONS selling arms no doubt.
