I had a very chance encounter with Robert Shapiro. The lead Attorney in O.J. Simpson's murder trial. This happened during a break in the long TV trial. I lived in the SF Bay Area and took a little break of my own with my then Girlfriend, now Wife at Lake Tahoe. While standing in line for a famous Rum Runner at the bar at Incline Village on the southeast shore who stepped up in line behind me.

We were all in a pretty happy Lake Tahoe mood but there was this cloud over Mr. Shapiro. I really can't explain this but I felt like there was this energy surrounding us.
Break for a minute: Robert Shapiro co-led Simpson's trial defense with a world famous Attorney Johnnie Cochran. The world knew O.J. was guilty. There were some people who would defend Simpson because of his status as a Football star, but he was a murderer. during the trial viewers were glued to their Tvs watching day after day of "circus law"... Simpson not allowing his hands to "fit" in the bloody glove... witness after witness berated, discredited and insulted... O.J. SIMPSON WENT FREE BECAUSE OF BRILLIANT SHENANIGANS as the world watched.
BUT EVERYONE KNEW SIMPSON BRUTALLY MURDERED HIS EX-WIFE AND HER FRIEND RON GOLDMAN ON THE STEPS OF NICOLE SIMPSON'S CONDOMINIUM.
So, here I am in line... getting an adult beverage, enjoying the Pines, the beautiful turquoise waters with most likely one of THE MOST FAMOUS MEN IN THE WORLD!@!!!!!
yes, the celebrity of Shapiro was thick, but so was the "cloud of defending a monster". I remember just looking at him and the look on his face. The only thing I said was "Taking a break?". His response was one of the most powerful things I've seen. He looked at me like "Save me!".
O.J. Simpson got off Scott free from one of history's worst murders in history because of the geniuses, and they're ability to work the facts, bend the truth, attack the police, install doubt in our justice system ... and show a man not able to put on a glove.
Shapiro and Cochrane won. but,.
Sadly, both Shapiro and Cochrane did not live long. Within a couple year both had passed away.
Sometimes a "dirty" win, will reside in the winners soul. Guilt from within will eat at your being.
And, that is why my story relates to this group of superstar attorneys.
I hope, these six brilliant legal stars see the dangers of getting a man off WHO VIOLATED THE PUBLIC'S TRUST AND THE CONSTITUTION,
They may "win". the case, and bear the weight of our Country losing the bigger struggle. Money against the masses. Truth against A PATHOLOGICAL LIAR.
