Maduro: Captured without due process: Another violation of international law.
January 3rd, 2026 The Trump Administration without authorization from the U.S. Congress, at a time no wars have been declared, kidnapped the Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his wife, from their home in Caracas. Both were transported via a U.S. warship to New York to stand trial for violating U.S. drug trafficking charges.
Kidnapping, a criminal offense consisting of the unlawful taking and carrying away of a person by force or fraud or the unlawful seizure and detention of a person against his will. The principal motives for kidnapping are to subject the victim to some form of involuntary servitude, to expose him to the commission of some further criminal act against his person, or to obtain ransom for his safe release. More recently, kidnapping for the purpose of extortion has become a tactic of political revolutionaries or terrorists seeking concessions from a government. Most civilized countries consider kidnapping a grave offense punishable by a long prison sentence or death.
Commentary:
Nobody is going to defend Maduro's actions. Everybody should defend Maduro's rights. Why? Today Trump is arresting an alleged drug crime boss with no legal process, tomorrow who knows... one of the political opponents Trump threatens to put in prison? someone who speaks against him? someone he just doesn't like?.
We've seen this before in history. We know how this turns out. By the time people who live in a country oppressed by authoritarians see they're powerless it's too late, they have no powers left to defend themselves.
